5 Things to Consider Before Hiring Decorators

When hiring a decorator, it should come as no surprise that you need to find one that is best suited to your preferences and objectives. You simply cannot pick any decorator that you find. Here are 5 tips to consider when choosing the right decorator for you.

  1. How much are you willing to spend

It’s important to establish a budget in order to know beforehand the quality of service that you are going to get. Of course, you also want to work within your means and not strain yourself too hard.

Some interior decorators can be quite expensive and will not accept a low budget. The good thing is you can always find someone that can offer you good quality work within the amount that you are willing to spend.

There are two points to note. Finds an interior designer that is willing to establish a reasonable number before you can get to work and second choose one that can still get you good quality work even with your low budget, that is, if you are working with a low budget.

Some people are not amiss to spending more than $30,000 for interior décor services.

  1. What does it cost

Just as it is important to consider the budget, it is equally important to find the right priced decorator. Some designers can be quite expensive charging upwards of $20,000 per room. If you are the average home owner, you will agree that this is quite high.

On the other end of the spectrum are designers that charge as low as $99 per room. Still, not a very good choice. Do your research and find a decorator with good reputation and one that is affordable to you.

  1. Your Style and preference

Everyone has a design that they love whether is vintage, contemporary or Hollywood regency.  Match your expectations to the decorator.

However, a point to consider is if the decorator says that they specialize in all styles, this is usually a red flag.

The best decorators have their specialty, and therefore you need to find one that best matches your style.

  1. Will you get trade-only pieces?

Often people overlook this point, but it is a very important consideration. A good decorator should always provide you with trade only items.

If you have a taste for unique items, then you will always be proud of your fabrics, wall papers and trims.

The problem comes in when the decorator only gets trade items. This type of furniture often comes with exorbitant prices. With the mark-up that is added by the designers, it’s difficult to take advantage of available coupons.

  1. Timeline

How fast do you want the job done? If you are pressed for time and need to get the house ready for a party, then your decorator will not be using custom items as it will often take a lot of time to source these.

Instead they will work with retailers to get you ready made furniture.  It all comes down to your timeline.
